During the war the Royal Navy imposed a blockade of all routes to Germany in order prevent any contraband reaching the enemy. Armed Boarding Steamers such as HMS Stephen Furness were used to go along side any ship that was stopped to search it. William Jennings was drowned on 1st November, 1915, but as yet there are no further details concerning his death.
